Celebrity Hairstyle of the Week
Are you just as excited about the Sex and the City movie as I am? I cannot wait to see what Carrie and gang get up to on the big screen. In celebration of that this week?s celebrity hairstyle is none other than the ultra stylish Sarah Jessica Parker.
You can see the hairstyle here.
Now it?s no secret that Sarah Jessica Parker?s hair is naturally curly?you can?t fake waves like that. But fear not?this hairstyle tames those wild waves and is actually achievable by both straight and curly haired beauties.
Curly hair?If you?re starting out with curly hair apply a smoothing balm to your damp hair. Section your hair into manageable sections and blow dry the roots straight to about 4 or 5 inches from the root. With the mid-shaft and ends use your fingers to gently soften your curls. Run your fingers through sections of your hair while gently pulling on the hair to relax but not rid yourself of those curls.
Curls may be fine as is with a little addition of some styling wax or may need a little touch up with a curling iron such as the Hot Tools triple barrel curling iron (see recommended products).
Straight hair?If you?re starting with straight hair add a volumizing mousse to your hair and blow dry you hair until completely dry. Take on to two inch sections (depending on the thickness of your hair) and create awesome waves via the?Hot Tools?triple barrel curling iron. Finish off with a little light styling wax to define those funky waves.
Recommended Product
The?Hot Tools?triple barrel curling iron is not your average hair iron. The unique two barrels on the bottom and one wavy plate on top actually creates fabulous waves in your hair without all the twirling. By pressing a section at a time into the large barrel you instantly create big, beautiful waves in your hair that a regular curling iron just can?t do.
HOT TOOLS 3 Barrel Professional High Heat Waver with Gold Barrels (Model: 1175V2)Price: $39.95 USD

Her Hairstyle Blog’s First Monthly Blog Carnival
Welcome to our first edition of The Her Hairstyle Blog’s monthly blog carnival. Every month I’ll be bringing you awesome links to other blog’s post centered on a specific topic.
This month?s topic is beauty product reviews. While they say true beauty comes from the inside there?s no denying that we are a society obsessed with making ourselves pretty on the outside as well. Nothing wrong with that! So in the spirit of primping our outer selves I bring you beauty product reviews from around the blogosphere.
Don?t you wish you could ?try on? a hairstyle or new eye shadow collection before you shell out the cash? Sveinung Skoglund from iExtreme Makeovers has a great article on using free virtual makeovers from the internet to do just that. You can try on celebrity hairstyles or the latest shade of lipstick by uploading a photo of yourself to these free online programs. Great fun!
Speaking of makeup Allie?s Answers offers up a solution to streaking and smudging mascara. According to Allie no woman should be caught with Mascara running down her cheeks and she?s found a natural mascara that stays put.
Keeping with the natural beauty theme Julena of Organic Makeup and Skincare gave Aubrey?s Organic hair conditioner a try and gives a very thorough review of what she thought of this certified organic product. Or you can check out Aparna?s thoughts on Dabur Vatika hair oil at My Blog on Beauty.
Those with chemically relaxed hair know all too well that no ordinary conditioning treatment will protect fragile hair from the stress of chemical relaxers. Thankfully Nadge from Relaxed Hair Health gives us a blow by blow account of the Aphogee Treatment and Balancing Conditioner. If you use chemical relaxers and you?re hair is not the silky cascade of strands you wish it were I highly recommend you read this review.
Since I?m never one to let men off the hook when it comes to personal grooming I was thrilled when Kevin Chan of Blurbberry submitted his reviews of men?s facial cleansers. There?s a whopping eight varieties to choose from so there?s no excuse not to find a favorite.
Last, but certainly not least, Dr. Martin Russell of the Self Help Blog tackles the tough issue of weight control by reviewing the book I Can Make You Thin by Paul McKenna. He?s been referring the book to his own patients and I think it deserves a look by anyone who might be fighting the battle of the bulge.
Well that?s it for this first edition of Her Hairstyle Blog?s Beauty carnival. I would like to thank everyone who submitted entries and thank all my loyal readers for having a look at our first blog carnival.
Don?t forget to check here on June 25th for our next Beauty carnival and, in the meantime, if you have a suggestion for a theme you?d like us to tackle in the next installment please feel free to leave a comment.

Hairstyle Trends: Bangs Are Back
In case you missed it?bangs are back with a vengeance. Long ones, short ones, skinny ones?you get the idea.
So why are bangs so hot? Well, for one they do a lot to frame the face and set off the eyes. Many times a hairstyle without bangs can just end up showing too much face. Bangs are also an easy way to create a new look with your hairstyle without getting scissor happy.
For those who aren?t sure if bangs are for them try the longer version of the side-swept bang. These add just a hint of bang across the forehead without being too heavy. They also blend well with long layers in long hairstyles.
Blunt bangs for the brave are so hot right now. Those that can pull off very sharp and defined hairstyles should go for it and pair a super blunt bang with a blunt bob?so chic!
Wispy bangs are the perfect choice for those with smaller faces or who hate a lot of hair on their forehead. These types of bangs soften short hairstyles and medium hairstyles alike.
Just to prove what a difference a simple bang can make have a look at Christina Ricci with and without bangs:

I think Christina is gorgeous but from the moment I laid eyes on her years ago I thought to myself ?That girl needs some bangs.? Christina has a very round and prominent forehead which just seems to take over her whole cute little face. With bangs it softens her and adds balance to her overall look.
QotD: What?s your opinion? Do you prefer Christina Ricci?s hairstyle with or without bangs?

Men?s Hairstyles: Long Men?s Hair Makeovers
Are you a man with long hair looking for a shorter men?s hairstyle? What I often found when I was working in a salon is men with long hair are often leery of getting it cut because they can?t picture what the end result will look like or they don?t know their options.
What you have to realize is that when you?re cutting off your long hair you have options. It?s not all about going from long to super short. There are many medium length men?s hairstyles that are so hot right now. Think Owen Wilson type hairstyles. You can still keep some of that length that you?re used to but give it a fresh look with a more flattering shape.
Shag-type hairstyles are an awesome choice for men who want to update their look but still keep some length. These types of men?s hairstyles are super trendy right now and don?t require as much work to style as you might think. Typically the hair is kept between collar length to just touching the shoulders in the back with long layers. The layers and length get a little shorter in the front to add shape but still blend well.
If you do decide to take it all off, think about keeping the sides and back short but leaving some length on top to play with and style. You might find you love the lighter feeling and low maintenance of that short men?s hairstyle after all.
Below is a video of a television show called Shear Genius. The premise of the show is that, like so many reality shows that are popular right now, people compete with each other through various challenges until one winner remains. This one pits hairstylist against each other to see who has the superior styling talent. In this challenge it was all about men with long hair getting it cut off. You?ll see some awesome examples of what new styles can be created out of long men?s hairstyles. Two things to watch for during this video: Do not attempt the men?s hairstyle where the stylist used the flat iron. Honestly, that stylist is an idiot unless that man is going to take the time to straighten his hair everyday. Pay close attention to the men?s hairstyle of the stylist who won. This is a perfect example of the popular men?s shag cut I was talking about.
I personally don?t like the look of men with all one length, long hair. I always think it look unkempt. I mean if Jon Bon Jovi cut his hair it?s time for every other man to do it too. If you?re a guy with long hair tell us why you haven?t cut it yet.

Wedding Hairstyles: Three Brides, Three Looks
Choosing a wedding hairstyle that suits both you and the theme of your wedding is extremely important. Besides being the icing on the cake, the right wedding hairstyle can be the difference between looking like a polished bride and a mismatched one. Here are three very different and distinctive wedding hairstyles to give you ideas when choosing the right one for you.
The Half Updo Wedding Hairstyle
This is a very popular hairstyle right now and wonderful for a romantic wedding hairstyle look. The stylist also gives some really great information on when to wash your hair, how long it will take to achieve this look in the salon (so book accordingly) and what type of dress this hairstyle suits.
Elegant Wedding Updo
This is perfect for a bride who loves to look totally glamorous on her big day. While this style might be too ?done? for some, if your wedding is going to be a very elegant and formal event and your dress reflects that, I think this wedding hairstyle would fit in beautifully.
Beach Wedding Hairstyle
This is the perfect wedding hairstyle for a beach or casual wedding. Please believe me when I say that if you?re getting married on a beach you want to look the part. My niece got married in the Dominican this past winter. Along with about 4 other brides during our two week stay. Some went for the totally formal look and, quite frankly they looked out of place and very uncomfortable.
I opted for a much more relaxed hairstyle when creating my niece?s wedding hairstyle and she looked like the perfect beach bride?and got countless compliments on her hair. If you?re having a beach wedding check out this beautiful yet more casual version of the wedding hairstyle.
So which bride were you or which bride are you planning to be? Romantic, elegant or casual? Tell us in the comments!

Sexy & Choppy Short Hairstyles: How To Do It Right
Kimberly Stewart

Image details: Jade Jagger Unveils Belvedere’s Jagger Dagger served by picapp.com
The newest version of the pixie cut features extended layers in the front for that messy, in-your-face kina bang. Unlike the traditional pixie cut of decades ago the modern pixie is a choppy short hairstyle with no clear lines of definition. The layers are created with a razor for that ragged look and definition is created by using pomades or styling waxes.
To style this pixie cut use a styling lotion on damp hair and blow dry hair with your hands. Use the palm of your hand in a circular motion to create volume at the root and guide hair into place with fingers. Finish off with the aforementioned pomade or wax to further coax and define those choppy layers.
Mariska Hargitay

Avoid a super short hairstyle with a chopped up bob. By breaking up the solid lines of a traditional bob and replacing them with choppy ends you create a much fresher and edgier look. The long side swept bang gently frames Mariska?s face.
To style apply styling product to damp hair?smoothing balm if your hair is thick, a thickening lotion if your hair is fine?and blow dry with a vent brush. Make sure your side part is really deep and your bangs flow across your forehead. For added interest flip out those choppy side and back layers a little more than shown here.
Sharon Sports a Pompadour

Image details: Harry Benson Retrospective Hosted By Architectural Digest served by picapp.com
I kinda love it, I kinda hate it. Sharon Stone has never been known for doing anything subtly and her choppy short hairstyle is no exception. While I?m loving the longer, super-wispy sides and back the jury?s still out on that pompadour she?s sporting on top. I do love the height but I think she?s showing too much botox forehead with this style. Not surprising?Sharon?s been known to show too much of other body parts in the past.
Anyway, if you decide you love this style use a strong hold hair gel and use your hands to tousle your hair while you dry it?flip your head upside down for lots of volume on top. Now wrap your bangs back with a medium sized round brush, spritz with an aerosol hairspray and blow dry them into place. Use a light hair wax to define your wisps.
I gotta ask, Sharon Stone?s hairstyle?love it or hate it? Let me know in the comments section.

Long Hairstyles or Short Cuts: Which Celebrity Hairstyles Look Better?
Celebrities are taking it off! No, not their clothes (with the exception of maybe Diablo Cody?but that?s for another post). What I?m talking about is the trend of long hairstyles getting a major makeover to short hair cuts. Today we show before and after photos and let you be the judge on which you prefer, long or short?
Gwyneth Paltrow?s Hairstyle
Before

Image details: Saks Fifth Avenue & Estee Lauder’s “Pleasures” by Gwyneth Paltrow - Inside served by picapp.com
After

Image details: Premiere Of Paramount’s “Iron Man” - Arrivals served by picapp.com
I?m going on record as saying this is the best move Gwyneth has made since dumping Brad Pitt. While I think she?s beautiful I was beginning to wonder if all that granola she was eating was starting to affect her fashion sense. The new, shorter haircut makes her look so much sexier and up-to-date. The long hair just dragged her down. As my old hairstyling teacher once said ?Hair past your shoulders is just hair. It just sits there and does nothing for you.? Amen Mrs. Salemi!
Jena Malone?s Hairstyles
Before

Image details: LA Premiere Of Paramount Vantage’s “Into The Wild” - Arrivals served by picapp.com
After

Image details: Los Angeles Special Screening Of “The Ruins” - Arrivals served by picapp.com
This transformation is nothing short of jaw-dropping. Jena Malone goes from looking like a nondescript girl next door to a diva thanks to loosing that mass of badly colored hair. The new dark hue contrasts beautifully with her light complexion and the cut is nothing short of stellar. Good job, Jena!
Kristin Chenoweth?s Hairstyles
Before

Image details: 3rd Annual “A Fine Romance” served by picapp.com
After

Image details: 25th Annual William S. Paley Television Festival - “Pushing Daisies” served by picapp.com
Just like Giselle in Disney?s Enchanted put the cart before the horse when she thought she should marry Prince Charming and then get to know him, Kristin Chenoweth went against the trend and actually grew out her shorter hairstyle.
Two words?why? And why?
Kristin?s short hairstyle suited her small face so much better and, quite frankly, looked a hell of a lot healthier. Now Kristin?s ends are as fried as the Colonel?s secret recipe chicken. Not to mention how ?Barbie doll? blonde that heinous color is. She needs to get herself to her fairy godmother pronto and ask for a happily ever after makeover.
OK, it?s time for the judging. I?ve put in my two cents and now it?s your turn. Which celebrity hairstyles do you like best?the befores or the afters? Let the judging begin!
