A Close-Up of Kelly Clarksons Hairstyles
Now and again I use my favorite keyword research tool to find out what types of hair related topics people are searching for. Well, imagine my surprise when I discovered that 1665 people a day are searching for the words Kelly Clarkson hairstyles. Well, far be it from me to keep a lady apart from her favorite hairstyle.
Girl Gone Blonde

Image details: Kelly Clarkson Plays Sydney served by picapp.com
While we mostly know Kelly as a brunette this short stint as a blonde was a refreshing change. Here Kelly Clarksons hairstyle is a layered bob. The ends are razored to remove excess bulk and better frame the face without overwhelming it. The bangs are left super long and left to frame her face. What really makes this style is the multi-dimensional color with a honey brown base with light pastel blonde highlights.
Craving Chocolate

Kelly goes to the dark side with this rich chocolate brown hair color. Her hair is long with volume boosting layers throughout which are set in large curls with a large barrel curling iron. Define those big waves with a little styling wax and mist with a light hold hair spray. A very yummy Kelly Clarkson hairstyle indeed.
Threes the Charm

Image details: CMT Giants Honoring Reba McEntire - Arrivals served by picapp.com
Our third example of the every-changing Kelly Clarkson hairstyle is by far our favorite. Displayed on her websites homepage Kelly is rocking a short and sassy style. The color is similar to her long chocolate version but with strategically placed subtle highlighting around the face to add dimension. Though her hairstyle shown here is set for an evening look in retro style curls the cut is very ragged and razored with wispy length left around the sides. We HEART this hairstyle big time and hope she keeps it for a while.
Kelly Clarkson has had a lot of different hairstyles and colors in her time. Whats your favorite Kelly Clarkson hairstyle and why?

The Ultimate In Long, Layered Hairstyles
As I was roaming the blogosphere I happened across an example of what happens when long hair is layered perfectly, the color is gorgeous and the style is out of this world. Yes, I found the ultimate long, layered hairstyleand its oh-so-yummy.
So who is the wearer of this prized hair do? None other than Mila Kunis of That 70s Show fame. Shes traded in her 70s flippy do for this hot hairstyle that makes perfect use of the long layered hairstyle. Soft waves are created via medium sized Velcro rollers and then separated by finger combing the hair. The dramatic middle part adds contrast to the large waves below. Add a little light hairspray and shake it out for added volume and you are good to go.
This has got to be one of the hottest evening hairstyles Ive seen in a while and its all thanks to the picture posted on The Superficial blog. The post is entitled Mila Kunis is Sweet Baby Jesus Hot and goes on to say:
I’m sorry Kim Kardashian lovers/Weight Watchers enthusiasts but this is how you show up for a premiere: By looking SH-BANGIN’! This is Mila Kunis at the premiere of her new movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall and I gotta admit I never was much of a fan during her time on That 70’s show. I was all about the Laura Prepon Amazonian goodness. Maybe it’s because Mila’s character dated Ashton Kutcher and therefore, by association, I wanted her to get hit in the face with a large jungle cat. But now? Get that cheetah out of the slingshot; Daddy likes.
Ive got to agree. Leaving the 70s and getting with the here and now definitely agrees with Mila.
See the picture and post at The Superficial.
Have you seen any pictures past television stars lately where they’re looking hot? If so tell us about it and post a link if you can.

Trendy Hair Cuts for Long Hair
When youre wearing your hair long it can be easy to get stuck in a style rut. To break free of this were showcasing some hot and trendy hair cuts for long hair to inspire you.
Flaunt it Like Fergie

Image details: Idol Gives Back 2008 - Show served by picapp.com
We love Fergies style and her hair is the icing on that sassy cake. Her long hair is enhanced with layers which add shape but what makes this style so loveable is the big, flipped back curls she has. To create this yourself simply spiral two inch sections of hair around a large barrel curling iron, separate with your fingers and define with a little hair was. Its super simple but the impact is a casual yet very chic hair cut for your long hair.
In with a Bang

Image details: 2007 MTV Video Music Awards - Arrivals served by picapp.com
Bangs are hot right now and when coupled with a sleek layered cut the result is stunning. This hair cut for long hair relies on wispy layers around the face that are strategically carved in via a straight razor. The full bang frames Jennifers face perfectly and adds contrast to the lighter layers below. To style simply add some smoothing balm to damp hair and blow dry with a large paddle brush. Use hair wax to separate and tousle the layers.
Easy Does It

Image details: CHANEL and P.S. ARTS Party at CHANEL Beverly Hills - Arrivals served by picapp.com
We chose this hair cut for long hair as a starter cut for those who are afraid of layers. Here Sarah Michelle Gellars hairstyle proves that even a long, side swept bang and the minutest of layers at the bottom of your hair adds some flair to an otherwise one length and boring cut. If youve been resisting layers now theres no excusethese wont hurt a bit!
In case you havent guessed, layers are where its at. If your long hair is out of shape its time to glam it up with some shorter lengths.
While I was looking for example pictures of long hairstyles to show you I came across this one of Beyonce. Ive got my own thoughts on this style but Id love to hear yours.

Black Trendy Hairstyles
Todays focus is on black trendy hairstyles. The trend is still strong towards relaxed black hairstyles but I did throw in some natural ones for those who dont want to deal with chemical relaxers.
Relaxed Styles
Alicia Keys

Image details: Black Entertainment Television - Launch Party served by picapp.com
It just doesnt get sexier than this. Alicia is rockin one super-sexy hairstyle. To get your own version of Alicia Keys hairstyle apply a smoothing balm to damp hair and blow dry with a large round bristle brush. Next curl two inch sections of hair with a medium sized curling iron. Only go half-way upleave the roots straight to avoid too much volume there. When youre done curling coat your hands with a light hair wax and gently mold curls into place, separating a few for variety.
Jada Pickett Smith

Image details: First Annual Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon served by picapp.com
I am lovin this dramatically angled bob hairstyle on Jada. The length difference from front to back is very dramatic. This black trendy hairstyle is perfect for those who have relaxed hair and want to make a style impact without a fussy hairstyle.
Kelly Rowland

Image details: Choice FM: 18th Anniversary Party - Inside served by picapp.com
Now thats some serious diva hair Kelly is sporting. This cut works because of its clean lines. The short blunt bangs frame the face and draw attention to the eyes. The key to this hairstyle is having very healthy hair and using high quality, shine enhancing styling products to make that black hairstyle sparkle.
Play Peek a Boo with Hair Color

Image details: BET 106 & Park Presents Mariah Carey served by picapp.com
Do you want to experiment with hair color but dont want too dramatic of a change? Take a style cue from Ashanti and have your stylist place random streaks of contrasting color in your hairstyle. Two or three max should do it for the best effect. This way you have a trendy black hairstyle without the commitment of root upkeep.
Natural hair

Image details: Woman resting in bed served by picapp.com
Hate the hassle of using relaxers? The trend this season is for natural and touchable hair and that goes for black hairstyles as well. Leave the weave behind, shun the chemical solutions and go au natural, baby. Trim hair short, keeping it especially cropped on the sides and back. Use hair putty to mold and sculpt the top layers to give soft hold.
Note: This hairstyle will only work if you have great skin and a smaller face shape.
I mentioned that the trend in Caucasian hair is to keep things natural, yet many of the black hairstyles being worn today still reflect a strong use of chemical relaxers. Where do you stand on this issuerelaxed or natural, whats better?

Celebrity Hairstyle of the Week
OKa little while back I said I was going to start posting a celebrity hairstyle of the day from Instyles Look of the Day. Well, I soon realized that not all the celebrity hairstyles were worthy of your time. I mean there are only so many times I can tell you how to create a ponytail. So Ive changed it up a bit to Celebrity Hairstyle of the Week. Each Friday Ill pick the best hairstyle from Instyles offerings of the week and focus on that one. Sound fair? Well thenlets get started!
This weeks winner is Penelope Cruzs sexy long layered hairstyle. See it here.
Penelope Cruzs hairstyle is uncomplicated but oh-so-sexy. To create this celebrity hairstyle use a texturizing lotion to give lightweight hold, body and shine to the hair. Apply the product to damp hair and section off the hair into manageable sectionspin up the top layers. Use a large paddle brush to blow dry the sections of hair, pointing the nozzle of your blow dryer at a downward angle to prevent flyaway hair. Youll also want to give your roots a shot from underneath while you hold the sections of hair up and out from the head to promote volume.
Create a middle part when you get to the top layer and dont forget to create some extra volume at the crown area by blow drying up and back. Once your hair is completely dry coat your hands with a little lightweight styling wax and further define those bottom layers. A light misting of hairspray sets this sexy celebrity hairstyle.
* As a side notepay close attention to Penelope Cruzs highlights. Note how they are light enough to be noticeable but dont look like streaks of lighter colorthats what you should be aiming for in the highlight department. Enhancedont overwhelm your base color.

New Hairstyle Alert: Grecian Braids are Hot
So how do you dress up a chignon but still keep it simple? Easywith some adorable braids! This new hairstyle has been popping up on celebrity heads such as Selma Hayak and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
The braids are a super easy way to update the classic chignon and add some interest to those pulled back sides. What I love about this new hairstyle is that it manages to make the chignon look either classierif you make the braids super neator more casual if you let those braids stay a bit messy. The call is yours.
Selma Hayak Goes Glam
Selma shows off a glam version of this new hairstyle at the Cannes Film Festival while promoting the new Indiana Jones movie.

Sarah Michelle Gellar goes sexy at the premiere of The Air I Breathe.
This is a messier version of the new braided hairstyle. The braid is a French one which sits flush on the head and the back is pinned in gorgeous curls. I heart this hairstyle so much I can hardly breathe myself.

Celebrity Hairstyle of the Week
Are you just as excited about the Sex and the City movie as I am? I cannot wait to see what Carrie and gang get up to on the big screen. In celebration of that this week’s celebrity hairstyle is none other than the ultra stylish Sarah Jessica Parker.
You can see the hairstyle here.
Now it’s no secret that Sarah Jessica Parker’s hair is naturally curly—you can’t fake waves like that. But fear not—this hairstyle tames those wild waves and is actually achievable by both straight and curly haired beauties.
Curly hair—If you’re starting out with curly hair apply a smoothing balm to your damp hair. Section your hair into manageable sections and blow dry the roots straight to about 4 or 5 inches from the root. With the mid-shaft and ends use your fingers to gently soften your curls. Run your fingers through sections of your hair while gently pulling on the hair to relax but not rid yourself of those curls.
Curls may be fine as is with a little addition of some styling wax or may need a little touch up with a curling iron such as the Hot Tools triple barrel curling iron (see recommended products).
Straight hair—If you’re starting with straight hair add a volumizing mousse to your hair and blow dry you hair until completely dry. Take on to two inch sections (depending on the thickness of your hair) and create awesome waves via the Hot Tools triple barrel curling iron. Finish off with a little light styling wax to define those funky waves.
Recommended Product
The Hot Tools triple barrel curling iron is not your average hair iron. The unique two barrels on the bottom and one wavy plate on top actually creates fabulous waves in your hair without all the twirling. By pressing a section at a time into the large barrel you instantly create big, beautiful waves in your hair that a regular curling iron just can’t do.

Hairstyle Trends: Bangs Are Back
In case you missed itbangs are back with a vengeance. Long ones, short ones, skinny onesyou get the idea.
So why are bangs so hot? Well, for one they do a lot to frame the face and set off the eyes. Many times a hairstyle without bangs can just end up showing too much face. Bangs are also an easy way to create a new look with your hairstyle without getting scissor happy.
For those who arent sure if bangs are for them try the longer version of the side-swept bang. These add just a hint of bang across the forehead without being too heavy. They also blend well with long layers in long hairstyles.
Blunt bangs for the brave are so hot right now. Those that can pull off very sharp and defined hairstyles should go for it and pair a super blunt bang with a blunt bobso chic!
Wispy bangs are the perfect choice for those with smaller faces or who hate a lot of hair on their forehead. These types of bangs soften short hairstyles and medium hairstyles alike.
Just to prove what a difference a simple bang can make have a look at Christina Ricci with and without bangs:
Without Bangs:

With Bangs:

I think Christina is gorgeous but from the moment I laid eyes on her years ago I thought to myself That girl needs some bangs. Christina has a very round and prominent forehead which just seems to take over her whole cute little face. With bangs it softens her and adds balance to her overall look.
QotD: Whats your opinion? Do you prefer Christina Riccis hairstyle with or without bangs?

Kimberly Stewart

The newest version of the pixie cut features extended layers in the front for that messy, in-your-face kina bang. Unlike the traditional pixie cut of decades ago the modern pixie is a choppy short hairstyle with no clear lines of definition. The layers are created with a razor for that ragged look and definition is created by using pomades or styling waxes.
To style this pixie cut use a styling lotion on damp hair and blow dry hair with your hands. Use the palm of your hand in a circular motion to create volume at the root and guide hair into place with fingers. Finish off with the aforementioned pomade or wax to further coax and define those choppy layers.
Mariska Hargitay

Image details: The 19th Annual GLAAD Media Awards - Arrivals served by picapp.com
Avoid a super short hairstyle with a chopped up bob. By breaking up the solid lines of a traditional bob and replacing them with choppy ends you create a much fresher and edgier look. The long side swept bang gently frames Mariska’s face.
To style apply styling product to damp hair—smoothing balm if your hair is thick, a thickening lotion if your hair is fine—and blow dry with a vent brush. Make sure your side part is really deep and your bangs flow across your forehead. For added interest flip out those choppy side and back layers a little more than shown here.
Sharon Sports a Pompadour

Image details: Harry Benson Retrospective Hosted By Architectural Digest served by picapp.com
I kinda love it, I kinda hate it. Sharon Stone has never been known for doing anything subtly and her choppy short hairstyle is no exception. While I’m loving the longer, super-wispy sides and back the jury’s still out on that pompadour she’s sporting on top. I do love the height but I think she’s showing too much botox forehead with this style. Not surprising—Sharon’s been known to show too much of other body parts in the past.
Anyway, if you decide you love this style use a strong hold hair gel and use your hands to tousle your hair while you dry it—flip your head upside down for lots of volume on top. Now wrap your bangs back with a medium sized round brush, spritz with an aerosol hairspray and blow dry them into place. Use a light hair wax to define your wisps.
I gotta ask, Sharon Stone’s hairstyle—love it or hate it? Let me know in the comments section.
