The Ultimate In Long, Layered Hairstyles
As I was roaming the blogosphere I happened across an example of what happens when long hair is layered perfectly, the color is gorgeous and the style is out of this world. Yes, I found the ultimate long, layered hairstyleand its oh-so-yummy.
So who is the wearer of this prized hair do? None other than Mila Kunis of That 70s Show fame. Shes traded in her 70s flippy do for this hot hairstyle that makes perfect use of the long layered hairstyle. Soft waves are created via medium sized Velcro rollers and then separated by finger combing the hair. The dramatic middle part adds contrast to the large waves below. Add a little light hairspray and shake it out for added volume and you are good to go.
This has got to be one of the hottest evening hairstyles Ive seen in a while and its all thanks to the picture posted on The Superficial blog. The post is entitled Mila Kunis is Sweet Baby Jesus Hot and goes on to say:
I’m sorry Kim Kardashian lovers/Weight Watchers enthusiasts but this is how you show up for a premiere: By looking SH-BANGIN’! This is Mila Kunis at the premiere of her new movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall and I gotta admit I never was much of a fan during her time on That 70’s show. I was all about the Laura Prepon Amazonian goodness. Maybe it’s because Mila’s character dated Ashton Kutcher and therefore, by association, I wanted her to get hit in the face with a large jungle cat. But now? Get that cheetah out of the slingshot; Daddy likes.
Ive got to agree. Leaving the 70s and getting with the here and now definitely agrees with Mila.
See the picture and post at The Superficial.
Have you seen any pictures past television stars lately where they’re looking hot? If so tell us about it and post a link if you can.

Trendy Hair Cuts for Long Hair
When youre wearing your hair long it can be easy to get stuck in a style rut. To break free of this were showcasing some hot and trendy hair cuts for long hair to inspire you.
Flaunt it Like Fergie

We love Fergies style and her hair is the icing on that sassy cake. Her long hair is enhanced with layers which add shape but what makes this style so loveable is the big, flipped back curls she has. To create this yourself simply spiral two inch sections of hair around a large barrel curling iron, separate with your fingers and define with a little hair was. Its super simple but the impact is a casual yet very chic hair cut for your long hair.
In with a Bang

Image details: 2007 MTV Video Music Awards - Arrivals served by picapp.com
Bangs are hot right now and when coupled with a sleek layered cut the result is stunning. This hair cut for long hair relies on wispy layers around the face that are strategically carved in via a straight razor. The full bang frames Jennifers face perfectly and adds contrast to the lighter layers below. To style simply add some smoothing balm to damp hair and blow dry with a large paddle brush. Use hair wax to separate and tousle the layers.
Easy Does It

We chose this hair cut for long hair as a starter cut for those who are afraid of layers. Here Sarah Michelle Gellars hairstyle proves that even a long, side swept bang and the minutest of layers at the bottom of your hair adds some flair to an otherwise one length and boring cut. If youve been resisting layers now theres no excusethese wont hurt a bit!
In case you havent guessed, layers are where its at. If your long hair is out of shape its time to glam it up with some shorter lengths.
While I was looking for example pictures of long hairstyles to show you I came across this one of Beyonce. Ive got my own thoughts on this style but Id love to hear yours.

Hair Extensions: Your Best Hair Accessory
Move over clips and barrettes, the newest accessory to jazz up your hair ismore hair. Hair extensions have been making a steady comeback thanks to celebs such as Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson who wear them regularly. In fact, Jessica teamed up with celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves to create her own line of hair extension. But hair extensions arent just for the rich and bored, using hair extensions can help solve some common hair and style problems for just about anybody.
Fuller Hair Right Now
One of the most beneficial aspects of hair extensions is their ability to give instant thickness and volume to fine hair. As a hairstylist I lost track of how many people would sit down in my chair and bemoan their flimsy locks. Back then hair extensions were either super expensive, hard to get or these ratty things that youd call an exterminator to get rid of. Thankfully, now you can easily buy great quality hair extensions in all lengths and colors, slip them into your existing hair, and instantly volumize those fine strands.
Instant Layers
Layered hair is so hot right now. If your one length hair isnt doing it for you style wise its time to bring in the hair extensions. Lengthening and layering your hair is as easy as choosing hair extensions in the same color (or darker for a really funky look) and clipping them in underneath your own hair. The extensions will cascade from under your own and create a whole new look in minutes. How cool is that?
Long Hair When you Need It
Ever wished you had long hair just for a day? Or perhaps youre growing out your hair and just cant get there fast enough. Here come hair extensions to the rescue. Just as I described in the layering section above, clipping hair extensions under your existing hair will instantly lengthen your style and allow you to wear it styled down or upits your choice. Think of having an elegant updo for a formal event that wouldnt otherwise be possible with your shorter hair.
Synthetic or Real Hair Extensions?
Hair extensions are available in either 100% real human hair or high quality synthetic. So which one is better? The biggest difference between the two is the ability to heat style. With human hair you can blow dry it, use curling irons and flat ironsyou name it while synthetic hair extensions are not heat friendly and will melt if they come in contact with these heated tools.
Another factor is cost. Human hair is usually more expensive but, as I said, you have more styling options. Your best bet is to decide exactly how you plan on wearing your extensions and choose the one that works best for you.
As a closing note I highly recommend you stick with the clip in variety. These are the easiest to use and take no time at all to put in and take out. I highly recommend you have a closer look at Jessica Simpsons hair extension line.
So what do you think? Are hair extensions for you? If youve used hair extensions before let us know how you like them or drop us a question about using them.

Celebrity Hairstyle of the Week
OKa little while back I said I was going to start posting a celebrity hairstyle of the day from Instyles Look of the Day. Well, I soon realized that not all the celebrity hairstyles were worthy of your time. I mean there are only so many times I can tell you how to create a ponytail. So Ive changed it up a bit to Celebrity Hairstyle of the Week. Each Friday Ill pick the best hairstyle from Instyles offerings of the week and focus on that one. Sound fair? Well thenlets get started!
This weeks winner is Penelope Cruzs sexy long layered hairstyle. See it here.
Penelope Cruzs hairstyle is uncomplicated but oh-so-sexy. To create this celebrity hairstyle use a texturizing lotion to give lightweight hold, body and shine to the hair. Apply the product to damp hair and section off the hair into manageable sectionspin up the top layers. Use a large paddle brush to blow dry the sections of hair, pointing the nozzle of your blow dryer at a downward angle to prevent flyaway hair. Youll also want to give your roots a shot from underneath while you hold the sections of hair up and out from the head to promote volume.
Create a middle part when you get to the top layer and dont forget to create some extra volume at the crown area by blow drying up and back. Once your hair is completely dry coat your hands with a little lightweight styling wax and further define those bottom layers. A light misting of hairspray sets this sexy celebrity hairstyle.
* As a side notepay close attention to Penelope Cruzs highlights. Note how they are light enough to be noticeable but dont look like streaks of lighter colorthats what you should be aiming for in the highlight department. Enhancedont overwhelm your base color.

The braids are a super easy way to update the classic chignon and add some interest to those pulled back sides. Creating a Messy Look with Layered Hairstyles
Long layered hairstyles are everywhere right now and one of the popular ways to wear this type of hairstyle is the messy look. Now there’s a technique to creating a messy look in layered hairstyles beyond just shaking your hands through the hairstyle. You need the right product and the right method of applying that product to get the look just right.
In the Youtube video below the stylist shows an easy way to define your long layered hairstyle and get that great piece-y look. Pay careful attention to how far up the sections of hair she goes—not to the root, people! That’ll just make your hair look greasy.
Instead, concentrate on the last 1/3 of your hair’s length for best results. Also—the stylist in this video started at the front sides of the hair. This is OK if you’re already familiar with how much product your hair needs to achieve this look but if you tend to be a little heavy-handed with the styling product start at the back layers where the hair tends to be thicker. That way you won’t overload those front layers into a greasy mess.

QotD: Next week I’m starting a series called Hair Disasters How To. I’m going to be using the story of someone who went to the salon thinking “Wow—I’m going to get a great new look” and left thinking “Where’s the nearest paper bag store?” My hopes in featuring hair disasters like this is to help you a) avoid these yourself and b) let you know what your rights are when a hair cut goes all to hell.
So here’s where you come in. Do you have a hair disaster story of your own? If so email it to me at herhairstyleblog (at) yahoo.com (replace the at with @ of course) with the words “Hair Disaster” in the subject line and tell me about it. I’ll feature these stories plus advice on how to handle this type of situation during the month of June. At the end of the month I’ll ask you, my wonderful readers, to vote on the worst hair disaster story of the bunch. The winner will receive some hair goodies from me. So send in your stories, make sure you’ve signed up the rss feed so you don’t miss any, and tell your friends because we’re about to turn hair disasters into hair schwag.

Hairstyle of the Day
I love browsing through other hair and beauty blogs and one of my favorites is Instyle’s Look of the Day post. In case you’re not familiar with this, they post a picture of a new celebrity each day, talk about what their wearing and have links to where to go to buy their outfits. It’s a cool concept but I’m always sad that they never mention the hair!
Ladies—you can’t forget about the hair! So here’s what I’m going to do. Each day I will post a link to the Instyle Look of the Day so you can see the celebrity picture they have chosen. Then come back here and I’ll tell you how to style your hair just like hers and what products you’ll need to do it. Sound good? Well, all right then—let’s go!
Today’s Instyle Look of the Day
Michelle Monaghan’s hairstyle is basic but chic. Her hair is basically one length with face framing layers carved in the front. Her bangs are full and blunt to complete this clean-cut look.
This style is really only going to work if you have super straight hair. Other wise you’re going to be fighting with it constantly. Even though you have straight hair I still recommend a smoothing serum be applied to your damp hair first to eliminate any frizz/fly aways and to promote lots of shine.
Evenly distribute the serum through your damp hair. You’ll need a vent brush and a large round brush while blow drying. Start with the bangs and have the blow drier set on low. Use the vent brush to get the bangs as straight and low profile as possible (using the round brush will make them form a big bang bubble).
Once the bangs are dry section off the rest of the hair and pin up the top section for now. Starting at the roots, move the large round brush through to the ends while you follow it with the nozzle of the blow drier. Keep repeating this process, section by section, until all your hair is dry. When you get to the front give those shorter layers an extra “twist of the wrist” with the brush to bend them inward.
Finish off with a little light hair wax just to barely define the front layers and you’re good to go.

Prom Hairstyles: 1920’s Inspired Glam
Prom will be here before you know it so you’d better plan your prom hairstyle before it’s too late. If you plan on doing your own hair you’ll need to make sure you have all the supplies you need and if you’re booking with a stylist make sure you’ve already made the appointment to avoid disappointment. You also need to actually find a prom hairstyle—but not just any hairstyle! You need the perfect hairstyle for your special night.
Today I want to show you a video I found that demonstates how to create an incredible 1920’s inspired prom hairstyle. It was apparently inspired by Katherine Heigl and is the perfect prom updo if you’re looking to go glam.
Pay close attention to how the stylist uses the curling iron if you plan on doing this style yourself or are having a friend help (have them watch the video too!) If a stylist is doing your hair tell them you want Katherine Heigl’s chignon—and print off the picture below.

Ok, without further adieu I give you a sexy and sophisticated prom hairstyle: The 1920’s chignon.
